Sun and Smoke

I asked for sun, and that’s just what I got. Lots of Sun…so much so that I got sunburned on my arms to the point they blistered. But I jumped ahead of the story…

The day started off at 60 degrees and didn’t get much warmer going up the 101 Highway. By the time I got to Astoria I was DONE with dumb drivers doing exactly the speed limit or slower for no apparent reason. I headed inland…

I went by the town where my grandmother and uncle were born, then headed north into Seattle. Washington must want those federal highway dollars because their maximum speed limit on most of their roads, even on a major interstate (I5), is 60. Thank goodness for Montana, but I jumped ahead again.

I spent the night in Kent, WA, which is southeast of Seattle, then headed out in the morning – destination…Spokane. Along the way I took a few pictures, but noticed it was quite hazy – they have the same problem in the summer…wild fires!

Here are the pictures I took on the way to Grand Coulee Dam (as well as the pictures of the dam itself). I made it with 5 minutes to spare for the final 5PM tour!

I spent the night in Spokane, where the hotel had lemon cookies with white chocolate chips. I thought it sounded disgusting, too, until I tried one. I asked for the recipe for these weird cookies, but they told me it was a secret. Oh well, I tried. I spent the day making my way to Glacier National Park, and the famous Going to the Sun road. I have a complete video I’ll post once I can edit it, but until then, here are some pictures of the sites. There are a ton, so enjoy wasting some time on this page! (FYI, the pictures that are mostly white is to show what I was driving through Saturday on the way to Glacier – it was THAT smokey!)
